About Goodwill's Developmental Disability Services
The Day Services program is designed to empower individuals with developmental disabilities, helping them gain independence through skill development and community engagement. Our comprehensive services are designed to support each person’s unique needs and goals, ensuring they have the tools and opportunities to thrive. Teaching focuses on building skills like gross and fine motor skills, attention to task, physical abilities, following instructions, and social/self-help skills.
About the New Space
The Grand Island DDS space was completely transformed with a remodel funded by two American Rescue Plan grants. The former warehouse space gained two ADA restroom stalls, additional storage, and increased the social and learning space. The former space that was carved out of the adjacent warehouse area now a welcoming and comfortable space for day services classes and leisure activities.
Our Developmental Disability Services Include:
- Day Services: Services at Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska are primarily conducted in a non-residential setting. Teaching focuses on building skills like gross and fine motor skills, attention to task, physical abilities, following instructions, and social/self-help skills.
- Employment Services: Providing tailored training programs to enhance individual capabilities and prepare them for meaningful employment.
- Residential Services: Services include skill building and teaching for personal hygiene, household chores, meal prep, community activities, and social interaction skills.
- Shared Living Providers: A Shared Living Provider welcomes a person with a developmental disability into their home, offering care, teaching daily and independent living skills. They become a part of the provider's family, who attends to daily needs, transportation, and community access. Providers, independent contractors, receive training before service delivery.
Join us to celebrate the grand opening of the space and learn about the amazing achievements of the individuals we serve!
