Celebrating Earth Day: How Donations Make a Sustainable Difference

Every year on Earth Day, we pause to reflect on our impact on the planet and how we can build a more sustainable future. At Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska, sustainability isn’t just a one-day effort—it’s part of our mission all year long.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’re making meaningful strides in environmental conservation and responsible recycling practices throughout our 55-county territory in central and western Nebraska.

How Your Donations Help the Planet

When you donate to Goodwill, you’re not just giving away items—you’re giving them a second life. That means less waste in our landfills, fewer resources used to produce new items, and a healthier environment for generations to come.

Here’s what your support has helped us accomplish:

  • Over 10 Million Pounds of Donated Goods Collected Annually
This includes a remarkable 3.6 million pounds of clothing that were diverted from local landfills—items that are now being reused, repurposed, or recycled.
  • 30,000+ Pounds of E-Waste Recycled Each Year
Old electronics don’t belong in the trash. Through our e-waste recycling initiatives, we’re helping to reduce harmful materials from entering the environment.
  • 175,000+ Donors Making a Difference
Each donation contributes to a ripple effect—reducing waste, creating jobs, and supporting programs that empower people with disabilities and other barriers to independence.

Your Impact Is Powerful

Our efforts are part of a larger, nationwide movement through the Goodwill network. According to goodwill.org/your-impact, Goodwill helps keep billions of pounds of items out of landfills each year while offering critical support services across the country.

When you support Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska, you’re part of a local movement that leads to global change. Your donations fuel our job training programs, employment services, and community-based initiatives—all while protecting the environment.

Small Actions. Big Impact.

This Earth Day, consider what items in your home could be given a new purpose. Whether it’s a bag of clothes, an old laptop, or unused household items, your donation helps preserve our planet and uplift our communities.
