Garage Sale Season: Declutter, Donate, and Make an Impact with Goodwill

Garage Sale Season: Declutter, Donate, and Make an Impact with Goodwill

As spring and summer roll in, so does garage sale season—a perfect opportunity to clear out closets, reorganize the garage, and finally part ways with those unused items collecting dust. But what happens after the sale ends? Instead of throwing away the leftovers, consider giving them a second life by donating to your local Goodwill Donation Center.

At Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska, we encourage individuals and families to turn unsold or unwanted items into something powerful—opportunity. Your donations help reduce landfill waste and fuel life-changing services in your community.

Where to Donate

You can drop off your donations at one of our convenient Donation Center locations across Greater Nebraska. Just visit our interactive map to find the center nearest you: goodwillne.org/Locations/category/donation

Community Donation Drives All Year Long

Can’t make it to a Donation Center? We’ve got you covered. Goodwill also hosts community donation drives throughout the year, making it even easier to give back. Whether it’s at a school, neighborhood event, or workplace, these drives help bring donation opportunities closer to you.

Why Donate?

Your donations do more than just clear space—they change lives. Here's how:

  • Environmental Sustainability: Every item you donate keeps usable goods out of landfills, reducing environmental impact. Learn more about your impact.
  • Tax Benefits: Donating to Goodwill is tax-deductible. Be sure to ask for a donation receipt and use our Donation Value Guide to track what you gave for tax time.
  • Community Support: Proceeds from your donations help fund employment programs, job training, and services that support people with disabilities or other barriers.

A Simple Step with a Big Impact

So after your next garage sale, instead of packing unsold items back into storage, pack them up for Goodwill. You’ll declutter your home, support local programs, and help build a greener, more sustainable community.

Thank you for supporting Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska—where every donation creates opportunity.
