Honoring Maggie’s Legacy: The Maggie Thompson Memorial Scholarship

Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska is proud to offer the Maggie Thompson Memorial Scholarship, a tribute to a remarkable individual whose life embodied resilience, determination, and achievement.

Maggie Thompson joined the Goodwill family right out of high school, bringing her energy and enthusiasm to our mission. During her time with us, she developed a wide range of skills that led to her becoming our receptionist, a role she embraced with pride and dedication. Maggie’s journey was one of perseverance and triumph over challenges. Her outstanding accomplishments were recognized by then-Governor Charles Thone, a testament to her inspiring spirit and contributions.

Tragically, Maggie left us far too soon, passing away in 1988 while in her early 30s. To honor her memory, Maggie’s parents established the Maggie Thompson Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship continues Maggie’s legacy by supporting high school students with disabilities who aspire to further their education and enhance their independence. It is a powerful way for her family to pay it forward, helping others overcome obstacles just as Maggie did.

Applications for the 2025 Maggie Thompson Memorial Scholarship open on January 1, 2025, and close on March 15, 2025. The scholarship is available to high school students residing in our 55 county service area in Nebraska who are living with a disability who demonstrate their determination to achieve greater independence through education or employment.

Recipients of the Maggie Thompson Memorial Scholarship not only receive financial support but are also celebrated for their commitment to personal growth and success, values that Maggie exemplified during her time at Goodwill.
