Goodwill's Recovery and Wellness Program

November 27, 2024
Goodwill's Recovery and Wellness Program

At Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska, we believe in the transformative power of community, understanding, and support. For individuals navigating the challenges of mental health or addiction recovery, having access to the right resources can make all the difference. That’s why we’re proud to offer the Recovery and Wellness Program (RWS) at our Columbus location—a service designed to provide hope, connection, and practical tools for those on their recovery journey.

A Safe Space for Growth

The Recovery and Wellness Program offers a safe, trauma-informed environment where individuals can access support tailored to their unique needs. It’s more than just a program; it’s a lifeline for those seeking to regain control of their lives.

Participants in the RWS can access:

  • Peer Support Specialists: Guided by those who have walked similar paths, peer support specialists share their own mental health and addiction journeys to help others navigate their obstacles.
  • Educational and Support Groups: Individuals can learn new skills, build resilience, and connect with others in structured group settings.
  • Computer Lab and Community Resources: Practical tools and resources are available to help individuals with employment, education, and other needs.
  • Peer-to-Peer Socialization: Participants are encouraged to build connections and foster understanding among peers who truly “get it.”

This unique combination of services creates a nurturing environment where individuals not only receive help but also build a supportive community of their own.

A Story of Hope
What makes the Recovery and Wellness Program stand out is its emphasis on peer support. Recovery can often feel isolating, but at RWS, participants find themselves surrounded by others who understand their struggles and triumphs. Director of Behavioral Health Services, Jillian Boss, recently shared a moving story that highlights the importance and impact of RWS:

A mother and her adult son came into the program seeking help. The son had experienced a major traumatic event that had taken a toll on his mental health, relationships, and ability to work. With past suicide attempts and ongoing suicidal thoughts, they were searching for a way forward.

When introduced to the Recovery and Wellness Program, the mother’s face lit up with hope. She encouraged her son to explore the groups, knowing it would help him manage his mental health, get out of the house, and connect with others who understood his struggles. After learning more about the program, the son made the decision to enroll. He’s now part of RWS, looking forward to building a better future with the support of peers and the resources provided by the program.

A Path Forward

At Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska, we are committed to empowering lives and sustaining futures. The Recovery and Wellness Program is more than just a service—it’s a chance for individuals to rediscover their strength, build meaningful connections, and move forward with hope.
